About the Opportunity

The Ord Valley Aboriginal Health Service (OVAHS) now has a fantastic opportunity for a passionate and community-focused Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) Educator to join their dedicated team in Kununurra, WA on a full-time basis.

Are you committed to reducing the harm caused by tobacco use in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities? This is your chance to be part of a dynamic, culturally safe program that supports health promotion, education, and community empowerment to tackle smoking and improve health outcomes.

In this role, you will work closely with individuals, families, schools, and community groups to deliver engaging education and awareness campaigns. You’ll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to promote smoke-free environments, support quit-smoking strategies, and champion healthy lifestyle choices across the East Kimberley region.

Your work will be grounded in respect, cultural safety, and community connection, helping to create real change and support long-term health outcomes. Whether through school visits, community events, or one-on-one conversations, your impact will be felt and appreciated.

Due to the nature of the TIS Educator, you must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander as per Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).

About You

You are a passionate and community-minded health educator or practitioner with a strong commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. With experience in health promotion, education, or community engagement, you are driven to reduce the harms associated with tobacco use through culturally safe and empowering strategies.

Your ability to connect with people, build trust, and engage respectfully with individuals, families, schools, and community groups sets you apart. You are confident in delivering health messages in a clear and culturally appropriate way, and you thrive in collaborative, community-based environments.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have experience in health promotion, Aboriginal health, or community education. A relevant qualification in health, community services, or education is desirable. Experience working in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services or remote settings will be highly regarded.

While you will be supported by a strong and dedicated team at OVAHS, working in a remote setting requires resilience, adaptability, and a genuine commitment to empowering communities to take control of their health.

OVAHS is an organisation that truly values its team, and is committedTIS Educator JDF to improving employee knowledge, skills and experience. It offers a stable, safe and supportive work environment with a large, multi-disciplinary team including doctors, nurses, Aboriginal Health Workers, an audiologist, dietitian, mental health workers and a social support unit.

Your dedication will be rewarded with an attractive remuneration package circa $93,000 per annum pro rata (commensurate with qualifications and experience including a range of benefits to significantly increase the value of your overall remuneration package including:

  • Specific benefits include:

    • Base Wage:$80,700 - $84,700 (dependent on Qualifications and experience) per annum pro rata + Super
    • 5 weeks annual leave per year
    • Additional paid leave over the end of year closure period, as per leave policy
    • Annual flight allowance 
    • Accommodation allowance
    • Salary packaging plus more!
